Donner Pass/Lake Tahoe Area Huts The Sierra Club's Donner Pass/Lake Tahoe Area huts are perfect if you want to explore the Sierra Nevada this winter but don't want to build an igloo or dig a snow cave. Each hut is a day's ski apart, or about a day's journey from various trailheads.
The huts give ambitious skier a chance to ski along the Sierra Crest without having to snow camp. All four huts are equipped with woodburing stoves and outhouses, but food, supplies, and bedding must be carried in.
