풀꽃들의 향연 - Garrapata SP near Big Sur 03/17/2024

아주 날씨가 좋다. Big Sur 로 가는 HW 1를 탄다. 태평양이 짙은 푸른색을 띄고 초록의 풀들이 멋진 경관을 만든다. 보통 Carmel 과 Big Sur는 거의 안개로 뒤덮여 있는데  이렇게 화창한 날씨를 보이는 것은 아마 일년중 10%도 안될 것이다.

저 경관을 보고 차안에서 싸온 점심을 먹는다. ‘금강산도 식후경’...아니다. ‘식중경’이다.

John Denver, the beloved country music star and environmentalist, met a tragic end in a plane crash on October 12, 1997.  존 댄버가 바로 저 바닷가에서 비행기 추락사고로 사망했다. 저 멀리 Bixby Bridge 다리가 보인다.

지난 1월 11일 LA에서 Eureka에 가는 비행기에서 찍은 Monterey 해변

1년중 3월달이 가장 깨끗한 초록 초원을 보여준다. 저 푸른 바다는 바로 저 밑에 깊은 해저계곡이 있기 때문이다.

Monterey Bay is home to one of the largest underwater canyons on the West Coast. Monterey Canyon twists and turns almost 250 miles (400 kilometers) out to sea. At its deepest point, it plunges to 2.5 miles (4 kilometers).

Why is the water so blue in Monterey?

Coale said it's thanks to a microscopic plant known in the science world as coccolitophores. They're tiny organisms, only five microns in diameter. If you lined them up, would be the width of a hair. Coale said it takes a very specific set of conditions to get the water this blue.Jul 23, 2015

몬트레이 바닷물은 왜 그렇게 푸른가?

과학계에서 coccolitophores로 알려진 미세한 미생물 덕분이다. 그들은 직경이 5미크론에 불과한 아주 작은 유기체. 일렬로 늘어놓으면 머리카락 굵기 정도 된다

Garrapata SP 5 miles를 오른다. 비교적 짧지만 2000ft elevation은 어느정도 힘든 trail이다.

 

와우! 3시간동안 5마일을 산행하면서 이렇게 다양한 풀꽃들을 발견하기는 처음이다. 자연의 색깔이 어쩌면 이렇게도 아름다울까? 파란하늘, 초록초원, 하얀구름, 노란, 보라, 빨강, 하얀, 분홍 풀꽃들. 역시 조물주는 위대했다. 이 조물주의 작품들을 한곳에 모아놓고 모두 감상하게된 오늘 하루. 가장 값진 하루였다.
